I have been becoming
discouraged lately about my efforts to lose my baby
weight, so I thought I would email you and see if I
could get help!
I had my baby 10 months ago and still have 20 lbs to
lose to get to my pre-baby weight. I am 5'7" and
currently weigh 167. I would like to lose an additional
10 lbs after that, but one thing at a time! I have been
going to Hampstead Health and Fitness since January and
have lost a few pounds but nothing too noticeable yet. I
am not sure what I am doing wrong. I work out 5-6 days
per week. I do total body strength training on the
circuit machines 2x/week and cardio the other 3-4 times.
I shoot for 45 minutes on the treadmill, but sometimes
can only do 30 min., using intervals switching between
jogging at 6.5 mph and walking at 4.0 mph. I only have
60 min. to spend at the gym right now total, so I am
trying to use my time most effectively. One day a week I
might not use the treadmill and use the elliptical
machine.
I eat very well too and have been writing down my foods.
A long time follower of Weight Watchers, I have learned
how to eat. I just can't believe I have not seen
results! I know I have to change it up with the strength
training but I am not quite sure how to do it. Is it ok
to do total body 2 days per week, one exercise for each
part? Am I getting enough cardio? Sometimes I feel like
I should sacrifice strength training to get the cardio
in.
Any thoughts??
Thank you so much for reading this and for your help!! |

You're in luck, as I have
A LOT of thoughts!
As we all know, there are several factors that go into
the success (or failure) of any workout or diet plan. It
sounds like you have all your bases covered, but when
you think you're doing everything correctly, and still
not seeing results, that's when you have to take a
closer look at exactly what you're doing for all of
those components.
Picture your road to success as a tri-pod.

Q - I have a
severe disc hernia in my lower back, I have had 3
steroid shots and need to strengthen my abdominal
muscles. It is still tough to do many things without
feeling my back twinge. I would like to know what
exercises that I can do to strengthen my abs but not to
go over board so that I am layed up for days afterward,
which has happened every time I try and do exercises for
the abs. |

To answer this question fully and specifically for you,
I'd need more information. I'd have to know when and how
the original injury happened, which disc is herniated,
and most importantly, what other medical treatments have
you had, and what medical recommendations you received.
For example, if you went to Physical therapy, I'd have
to know what exercises and/or flexibility training they
already did with you. Based on that, I could teach you
additional techniques to move you safely in the right
direction.
